Why education

The quietest work we do.

BOU has always supported education quietly, individually, and one student at a time. It's the work we do because we believe in it, not because there's a market for it.

How we choose

We back people we believe in.

We back students who can show real passion and competence for what they're pursuing. Formal degree, trade skill, scientific path, creative discipline — the field matters less than the conviction and the capability behind it.

We don't take open applications. Each student is selected based on demonstrated potential — what they've already done, what they're already learning, who they already are. The support is meant to remove the barrier between them and the work they were going to do anyway.

Today

Five students. Five years. Quietly.

In the past five years, BOU has supported five students through their studies — formal education and vocational training, depending on what each one needed.

Two are currently active. We recently paused on-boarding new students to bring more structure to how this work is run — selection, support, follow-through.

How it's funded

Other work pays for this work.

This is the part of BOU that doesn't fund itself — and shouldn't have to.

Our other businesses — technology, real estate, energy, agriculture — earn revenue, return capital, and grow. A portion of what they generate funds education. The bigger those businesses get, the more we can do here.

Where this could go

We're letting the shape reveal itself.

We haven't decided whether this becomes a scholarship trust, an education-focused operating arm, an edtech platform, partnerships with existing institutions, or something else entirely.

What we know: it grows as BOU grows. Slowly, deliberately, and without trying to be more than it is at any given moment.

Get in touch

Know someone who fits?

When we resume on-boarding, we'll be glad of recommendations — students who've already shown real passion and competence in what they're pursuing, formal or vocational. Send them our way. If you'd rather support the work directly, that's also a conversation we welcome.
